Help provide behavioral correction between dogs and inmates to help save lives!
Thousands of dogs each year are surrendered to shelters for their behavioral issues. Many of them are looked over in the shelters because of jumping, they're uncontrollable on a leash, shyness, and much more. Second Chance Animal Shelter is providing services for dogs in need of long term housing for correctional behavior and or medical needs. They have teamed up with two of their local correctional institutions to help work with these dogs that need behavioral correction, and dogs needing shelter while receiving medical treatment. Second Chance Animal Shelter provides inmates with proper training to care for individual dogs in this program and are in their care 6-8 weeks, 24 hours a day. Hard to adopt shelter dogs are in a prison of their own with little hope of being adopted without the necessary training and socialization. Not only does this benefit the dogs in this program to correct their behavior to learn to stay in a forever and loving home, but it has proven to be a life changing experience for inmates. The inmates have shown to improve morale within the facilities.
This program goes beyond bringing a dog to a training class because it is specifically tailored to that one dog and that one dog's needs. Because of the situation the trainers are in they can commit 100% of their time to these dogs in need. The intensive one on one training helps solve these dogs issues by providing long term housing and training. For pets with medical issues that require long term housing during their treatment, this program is a wonderful resource. It helps to prevent dogs from having to stay in a kennel when no fosters are open. Second Chance Animal Shelter has been able to successfully address these issues and get these dogs adopted and into forever and loving homes!
Second Chance Animal Shelter is a 501(c)3 organization who's mission is to provide temporary shelter to stray, abandoned and surrendered animals and find them home. They support a healthy pet community and affordable veterinary services.
