Help us rescue Sivilai!

"You don't need a bull hook to control an elephant. You can guide an elephant with love -- and bananas." - Lek Chailert, Founder of Save Elephant Foundation

Her name is Sivilai.

It means "the beautiful girl." Sivilai is young, but she looks old due to a lifetime of abuse. She has broken legs, but is forced to work and to breed despite the injury. Her current owner says she is ready to become pregnant again.

Sivilai is one of thousands of "service" elephants who have been broken for use in logging and trekking. Asian elephants are endangered, but they are still captured from the wild or captive-bred. All service elephants, whether kept for entertainment or for labor, are put through a brutal "breaking" experience known as a crush cage. Throughout their lives, most are confined and chained, malnourished, and without adequate medical care.

Help us rescue Sivilai, give her the medical treatment she needs, and give her a home where she can roam freely. Together, we can save her!

A team of elephant rescuers, led by world-renowned Asian elephant conservationist Lek Chailert, is ready to rescue Sivilai and bring her to freedom. Once in one of Lek's sanctuaries, Sivilai will receive medical care, proper nourishment, love, and a peaceful, joyous life with other rescued Asian elephants.

Lek and her team have saved many captive elephants, including a daring mission 500 miles across Thailand to rescue Noi Na, a 71-year-old partially blind captive Asian elephant working in the trekking industry. Noi Na's story is told in the upcoming documentary film Love & Bananas: An Elephant Story, screening across the U.S. on Earth Day. Noi Na's story exposes the plight of Asian elephants, but the film focuses on hope and the people who work tirelessly to save these gentle behemoths and to raise public awareness of their plight.

Give now to the Love & Bananas Fund to Save Sivilai! 100% of every donation goes directly to rescuing Sivilai, and to critical mobile medical equipment to care for Sivilai and other captive elephants. Further funding will expand the sanctuary so it can sustain more rescued elephants. Our goal is $40,000, and we know we can get there with the generosity of the GreaterGood community!

Join us this Earth Day!

Over the past 10 years, GreaterGood.org has provided millions of dollars in support of conservation and wildlife rescue efforts, including hundreds of thousands of dollars to protect and care for endangered elephants like Sivilai and Noi Na. Together, we have also permanently protected over one million acres of critical habitat for endangered species worldwide. This Earth Day, GreaterGood is raising as much money as possible to help Lek's efforts -- 100% of every donation goes to the cause.
